Susan’s Tanka Poems
Clouds stretching overhead
Shapes endlessly evolving
New world above my plain
Transformed from reality
Timeless & ethereal
Tiny acorn brought by hand
Now a mighty oak has grown
Parent tree has gone
Hope in the new
Life goes on
Mist across the river
Sun arrives with glow of dawn
Moon disappears behind the trees
Mist retreats in genie form
Night & day meet
Pelicans in unison
Float between the reeds
Harmony of nature
Where man can learn
but seldom does.
The door shuts
The footsteps fade
The lights go out
Confrontation evaded
Till the next time
Sparrows swoop together
Falling to the ground
Roll in the dustbowl
Spiral upwards out of sight
Just one moment in time
Sunset across the lake
Rays from the clouds
Fall upon the water
Children balance, arms outstretched
On the Driftwood by the shore
Windy shore by the sea
Sandhill’s etched with tuffs of grass
Surfers dot amongst the waves
Hand glider rides the currents
Life lived in many forms
